This traveler from Colorado, USA, bears the warm tan of years spent under the sun on his forehead, and countless travel stories are etched in the fine lines around his eyes—since leaving his stable design job at 25, he has ventured to 63 countries over 12 years. From Iceland’s aurora-lit tundras to Morocco’s blue mountain towns, from the ancient temple lanes of Japan to Peru’s Inca ruins, he doesn’t chase popular tourist spots. Instead, he’s obsessed with seeking out markets, workshops, and craftsmen’s cottages in every corner.

For Eliot, travel is never a superficial check-the-box activity—it’s a deep dialogue with world cultures, and those unique objects scattered across the globe are the most treasured tokens of these conversations. In Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, he once waited three afternoons for a hand-hammered copper coffee pot, just to see an elderly craftsman carve the final saffron pattern; in a Maasai village in Kenya, he traded half a box of chocolate for a handwoven Maasai beaded bracelet passed down by the tribal elder—its red beads mixed with volcanic rock powder, and its blue hues holding the morning light of the Great Rift Valley; in a Lisbon flea market, he unearthed a century-old nautical compass, its needle rusted but still seeming to point toward distant shores.
Eliot never likes to hoard these treasures that cross borders and time alone. Every time he returns from a trip, he carefully selects a few to give to his close friends—for the book-loving friend, a Moroccan handcrafted leather notebook still carrying the warm scent of hide; for the cooking enthusiast, a set of Japanese handcrafted ceramic tableware, whose glaze holds the warmth of the craftsman’s fingertips; for the friend about to embark on a journey, a Nepalese silver amulet, its patterns embodying the blessings of the Himalayas.
